Chiefs garner three points

20 Mar 2014

Mochudi Centre Chiefs claimed their second win in a row under new coach, Mike Sithole by defeating Motlakase 1-0 at the Swallows Ground on Wednesday, March 19, afternoon.

Torrential rains caused the match to be postponed a fortnight ago and when it was ultimately played, Lemponye Tshireletso scored the only goal of the game in the first half to secure maximum points for Magosi.

Chiefs enjoyed more ball possession and forced their hosts to concede numerous corner kicks in the first half, however they failed to capitalise on their pressure. Tables were turned in the second half as Motlakase gained control of the match.

Despite numerous attacks, Motlakase were frustrated by Chiefs defence, which did everything to protect their only goal. As Motlakase exerted more pressure, Sithole responded by beefing his defence with the introduction of Thabiso Khunwane in place of striker Bonolo Fraiser.

In a post-match interview, Sithole said he was pleased with the outcome of the game but condemned the state of the pitch. He said what they really wanted was the three points.

He said he was happy with his team because the players were now on a winning mood and were doing their best to work as a team. Sithole said they wanted to win all their remaining games.

Motlakase goalkeeper coach, Sparks Ndubo said it was a moderate game but regretted his team’s failure to score. Ndubo said the problem with his team was that they had difficulty in trying to finish up.

The win improved Chiefs points tally to 47 from 24 matches, but they remained in fourth place, three points behind log leaders Township Rollers.

Motlakase remained on position 7 with 34 points. ENDS
