Double Action hammer Kanye Swallows

Double Action hammered Kanye Swallows 4-0 in a one-sided women’s league encounter at Bosele Primary School on Sunday, March 16.

Two goals from Neo Masimola and one goal each from Thuto Ramafifi and Balotlhanyi Johannes ensured the hosts took the three points.

The game started at a low pace with neither of the teams showing any signs of weakness at the back. Most of the game was played in the midfield and the sides were not utilised. The game was also too physical with many fouls in the first five minutes.

It was Masimolola who opened the account for Double Action in the 10th minute after the Swallows defence failed to clear the ball on time. The goal demoralised the visitors as they did not show any hope of a comeback. Double Action gained confidence and Ramafifi attempted to score with a long range shot, but it went wide.

Swallows could have equalised a few minutes later, but captain Ntebogang Baitshupi hit a powerless ball into goalkeeper Peggy Segokgo’s hands.

Ramafifi was having a good game as her runs from the left flank troubled the Swallows defence. On the half hour mark, Ramafifi increased the lead after a good exchange of passes with her teammates. She fired the ball beyond the keeper’s reach with a left-footed strike, and the hosts went to half-time leading by two goals.

Swallows came back from the break a little bit disciplined at the back, but they couldn’t construct any move to get themselves back into the game. In an endeavour to get goals upfront, they brought in Sethunya Ketshabile for Malebogo Silabo.

Sethunya Modise was playing as a lone striker upfront and the balls could not reach her because Double Action was intact at the back. In the last 15 minutes, Swallows began to sleep at the back and Johannes could have made it three nil but the keeper saved the one on one chance.

The away side then conceded a penalty following a hand ball in the penalty area. Johannes converted it from a rebound after the keeper saved the first attempt. Double Action then put the game beyond the visitors’ reach by scoring the fourth goal of the day with Masimola earning her brace.

In a post-match interview, Double Action head coach, Agreement Podi said their opponents played mind games. “They told us that they will not make it to the game, but to our surprise they came” he said.

He said he did not bring his full squad because his main goal was to honour the fixture. He said even though they didn’t start well the ladies managed to score four goals. ENDS
