Debswana Mining Company launched the First Division sponsorship kit at the National Stadium on Thursday, March 13.

The launched kit included the home and away kit for the 24 teams for both south and north divisions.

Debswana sponsored the league last year with P6 million for three years. Speaking during the launch, the managing director of Debswana, Balisi Bonyongo said it was their privilege to demonstrate their continuing commitment to the growth and development of sport in Botswana.

Now that they had shown their commitment, he implored the players to take the ball to their heart.

He added that Debswana had developed sport from the lower end by sponsoring First Division and Re Ba Bona Ha respectively. “Debswana has over the years touched the lives of numerous young Batswana through its financial and moral support of the beautiful game of football,” he said.

Also speaking at the launch was the president of Botswana Football Association (BFA) Tebogo Sebego who remarked that the event was a very important and exciting moment for football. “Debswana has decided to develop football at a lower level, it is a serious investment therefore it is up to us BFA to protect this partnership,” he said.

As the leader of the game, Sebego said teams should also value the partnership and reflect the fairness of the game. First Division representative, Tariq Babitseng thanked Debswana for coming at the right time. He said the grants received by teams on a quarterly basis were currently utilised. ENDS
