Tafic still in danger despite massive win
17 Mar 2014
The battle at the bottom of beMOBILE premier league log standings intensified this weekend as bottom placed Tafic Sporting Club were the biggest winners after scoring six goals to humiliate Orapa United at the Francistown Stadium.
Leading the pack from the bottom, Tafic came into the encounter under enormous pressure to play for win in order to save themselves from the relegation axe, something which still seems to be insurmountable. Seating on 21 points from 24 games, Machimenyenga are not out of the woods yet and could be playing in the Debswana First Division North next season.
During the encounter on Saturday, March 15, Zimbabwean international who joined the club during the second round of the league, Tendani Nyamadzawo became an instant hero for his team as he scored five goals while Tafadzwa Maingire put the final nail on the diamond miners’ coffin with the sixth goal, beating former Tafic number one goalkeeper,
Mosimanegape Robert who left the club under controversial circumstances at the beginning of the season.
Fielding almost three former Tafic players which included the goalkeeper, defender Gofamodimo Kobe and midfielder Rodney Buka, Orapa United started strongly in the first 10 minutes of the game, launching attacks and shaking the Tafic defence led by Chakadza Pharo.
It was not long before Machimenyenga found their footing and parried all attempts by the visitors. They used Nyamadzawo’s height advantage and this resulted in his first goal from a header in the 11th minute.
After the half time break in an attempt to stimulate his striking force which was ineffective, Orapa United coach, Nchime Modise replaced defender, Kobe who did a good job in man marking the on form Nyamadzawo with a striker, Kgakgamatso Pharo.
After the game, Modise said his team experienced concentration lapses immediately after the first two goals which killed the whole plan they had.
His Tafic counterpart, Darlington Dodo, was of the view that although they are still in danger of the axe, winning with a huge margin acted as a morale booster for his players and they are not throwing in the towel yet. In the next game, Tafic takes on title contenders, BDF XI away while Orapa will be hosting Extension Gunners in Orapa. ENDS
