16 Mar 2014
A total of 32 youth projects were approved for funding in the Kweneng East constituency for 2013/2014 financial year.
Mr Edwin Batshu who was answering a question from Kweneng East MP, Maj. Gen. Moeng Pheto on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, said out of the 32 approved projects, funds had been disbursed for 13 projects, while19 projects would be funded by March 17, 2014.
He said the delay in funding was mainly due to beneficiaries opening bank accounts and securing business names late.
Mr Batshu who is the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs said the total cost of the 32 approved projects was P3.1 million and disbursement for the 13 projects amounted to P1.3 million whilst the balance of P1.8 million for the 19 projects was to be disbursed by today.
He explained that of the 13 projects which have been funded, seven were fully operational while procurement was on-going for the remaining six.
Mr Batshu said the projects were funded this financial year and none had collapsed, adding that the P2 million allocation for the constituency would be fully utilised by the end of the current financial year.
He said an additional P1.1 million had been transferred from low spending constituencies to fund additional projects in the constituency.
MP Pheto had asked the minister how many youth projects were approved and funded by his ministry in the Kweneng East constituency during the 2013/2014 financial year.
He also wanted the minister to state the total cost of these projects, how many of these were in operation, how many had collapsed and why, as well as to whether the funds allocated to the constituency were fully utilised and if not, what the balance was. ENDS
