Plans afoot to upgrade bandwidth

13 Feb 2013

Work is in progress to upgrade the bandwidth for all the civil and national registration offices throughout the country to the required bandwidth capacity.

Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu said 17 offices were upgraded between November 2012 and January 2013, while the remaining 12 offices inclusive of Hukuntsi would be upgraded by the end of March 2013.

Minister Batshu noted that the regular network failure at Hukuntsi was a result of inadequate information and technology resources that limits the bandwidth capacity in the area.

He said the bandwidth capacity upgrading was intended to improve the speed at which information is processed for improved service delivery.

MP for Kgalagadi North, Mr Phillip Khwae had asked the minister what strategies were in place to address the seemingly nationwide network problem for registration of births, deaths and Omang. He also wanted to know what led to regular network failure at Hukuntsi and measures in place to address the problem. ENDS
