Parliament has been told that NG 25 and NG 26 are concession areas that have been leased out directly to locally based companies by the Tawana Land Board.

The Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi said they were not available for leasing adding that NG 25 had been leased to Ngamiland Adventure Safaris and the lease would expire in May 2014.

Dr Venson Moitoi said this when responding to a question from the MP for Ngami, Mr Taolo Habano on behalf of the Minister of Enviornment, Wildlife and Tourism.

She stated that NG 26 had been leased to Elephant Back Safaris and the current lease between Tawana Land Board and Elephant Back safaris was due to expire in December 2025.

The minister stated that the communities were aware of these leases. MP Habano had asked the minister whether the concession within the buffalo fence that is NG 25 and 26 could be made available for communities of Habu, Nokaneng, Gumare, Tubu and Etsha for their intended community based trust.

Mr Habano also asked if the said areas are currently leased out to companies or individuals and if so how long they have been leased and whether the communities were informed of these leases. Ends
