The clash between the two Francistown soccer giants is never short of drama, and that was the case on Sunday, March 9 when Ecco City Greens locked horns with cross town rivals Tafic.
Mamoja Diskie emerged the winners in the beMOBILE Premier League clash, walloping Tafic 2-0 in a thrilling match that went to half time with both teams deadlocked at nil-nil.
But Mamoja Diskie broke the deadlock on the 70th minute when a shot from Tendai Nyamusi deflected on Phineas Kgotlheng and resulted in a goal.
With their confidence bolstered by the goal, Ecco City Greens took the war to Tafic, and they were rewarded in the 76th minute through a superb goal from Onkgolotse Senatla who smashed home a rebound after Nyumasi hit the post.
Trouble -ridden Tafic still find themselves stuck in the relegation zone, while Ecco’s win puts them in good stead to compete in the Mascom Top 8.
Both the fans and the players were not deterred by the heavy rains that poured before the game started.
Even though part of the pitch was submerged in water, the players still gave their best and produced a thrilling game.
In the first half, it was ECCO City Greens who took the game to Tafic, and the duo of Chakazha Pharo and Kealebogo Molebatsi did well to thwart the incessant forays made by Mamoja Diskie strikers Tendai Nyumasi and Olekantse Mambo.
However, Ecco strikers missed most of their chances as they shot wide.
At some point Zecco Makafiri squandered a clear cut goal, shooting wide after receiving a pass from fellow marksman Nyumasi, who had managed to break through the Tafic defense. Tafic responded in kind as Tlhagiso Matthews’s set pieces caused confusion in the Ecco defense.
In a post-match interview, Tafic head coach Darlington Dodo grudgingly admitted that the going is getting tougher for the Matjimenyenga Boys.
Despite their relegation woes, Tafic failed to get maximum pints and a loss will only add to their troubles. ENDS
