Olympic committee benchmarks in SA
12 Feb 2013
A team comprising representatives of Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and EOH Consulting are in South Africa on a benchmarking mission. EOH Consulting has been engaged by BNOC to review its secretariat structure.
A press release from BNOC says the team visited the South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the Pretoria High Performance Centre for meetings with authorities of the respective bodies.
Their assignment includes reviewing the BNOC secretariat structure, auditing skills within the secretariat, identifying gaps and developing a performance management system for the organisation.
Furthermore, it is reported that EOH Consulting is also conducting a desktop study on a few high performing sporting nations such as Australia, New Zealand and Trinidad and Tobago.
“Within the continent, EOH has identified South Africa as a good benchmark, and because of their proximity to Botswana, it was determined that South Africa can be visited for the purpose of gathering much more detailed information," the release states.
The release further explains that EOH Consulting is expected to have completed the restructuring exercise by the end of this month, after which the report will be presented to the BNOC board, who will take it to their annual general meeting in May.
“With the exercise, the BNOC hopes to have a lean yet fit-for-purpose structure that would assist it to deliver their 2008–2016 strategic plan. The filling of some positions that fell vacant within the BNOC secretariat structure have been put on ice, pending completion of the exercise,” says the release. ENDS
