Parliament has been told that package to the retired vice president includes medical assistance and a nurse who is paid by government.

The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said this in Parliament on Wednesday, March 5.

He said paragraph 76 of the Green Book provided that “the President may, in exceptional cases, award particular benefits or privileges to the retired Vice President, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Minister, Assistant Minister or Leader of Opposition on compassionate grounds or based on any other criteria determined by the President.”

Mr Matlhabaphiri was responding to a question asked by Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi who wanted the minister to state other non-monetary benefit that was extended to the retired former vice president other than a vehicle and driver.

The minister was also asked to state what provision was used to extend such benefits to him. ENDS
