All set for African Hero semi-final showdown

05 Nov 2026

Football lovers are in for a thrilling doubleheader at the National Stadium on November 7, as four of the country’s FNB premier league giants clash in the semi-finals of the inaugural African Hero Top 8 knockout football tournament.

The first encounter will see Mochudi Centre Chiefs up against Sua Flamingoes at 5pm.

Historically, both teams are well known for being tight in defence, therefore pundits predict a tactical battle with limited scoring chances.

In their last meeting, Centre Chiefs narrowly edged past Flamingoes with a 1-0 victory, leaving fans wondering whether Magosi or Bafana Ba Letswai will prevail this time around.

Magosi will look to their trusted core to unlock the opposition, banking on the creativity of Mpho Kgaswane, Brazilian midfielder Kennedy Da Costa, and the defensive stability manned by Mosha Gaolaolwe.

On the other side, Sua Flamingoes will counter with a solid defensive wall, where captain Ronald Ngwako and veteran Simisani Mathumo will be tasked with marshalling the backline to deny Magosi attackers scoring chances.

The second semifinal feature a heavyweight match as Jwaneng Galaxy seek redemption against Gaborone United.

Galaxy will be motivated to bounce back after recently suffering a 1-2 league defeat at the hands of the Reds.

The fierce love-and-hate rivalry now spills over into the African Hero tournament, with both sides boasting star-studded lineups.

GU will rely on the quality of Benson Mangolo, Thatayaone Kgamanyane, Paulus Amutenya, Alford Velaphi, and Tatenda Gora to book their ticket to the finals.

Meanwhile, Galaxy will counter with an explosive attacking front line featuring the free-scoring Olebogeng Ramotse, Chicco Molefe, Tebogo Kopelang, and Godfrey Tauyatswala to push their team forward.

With both sides boosting of talent and experienced players in their lineups, the clash will likely be won or lost on the tactical chalkboard.

Jwaneng Galaxy coach Seemo Mpatane will need his signature ability to read the opponent’s strategy within the opening minutes of the match to gain an early upper hand.

However, countering Gaborone United will be a mountain to climb, as head coach Sean Connor brings a combination of strict tactical control and high-tempo style of play that could prove difficult for Galaxy to absorb over 90 minutes.

The title sponsor of the Botswana Football League (BFL) Top 8 tournament is African Hero, a Pan-African initiative, which has injected a P4 million sponsorship into the competition. ENDS
