The Botswana Red Cross Society will hold a mass Christmas party for students of three centres : Tlamelong,Tshimologo and Sefhare Rehabilitation Centres in Tlokweng, Francistown and Sefhare respectively.
The announcement was made by the society’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kutlwano Mukokomani at the end of the Tshimologo Rehabilitation Centre 2026 Football Festival held in Francistown Council Stadium on Sunday.
Dr Mukokomani said the event presented an opportunity to showcase the role of sport in fostering community cohesion, while highlighting the humanitarian work of the Botswana Red Cross Society.
He said through annual event the society assisted the less privileged members of the society, noting that Tshimologo Rehabilitation Centre was one of its major clients.
He said Botswana Red Cross Society will continue to support and amplify humanitarian initiatives in its three centres across the country.
Dr Mukokomani commended all the participating teams for taking part in the event, adding that their participation meant a lot to the society and to learners at the rehabilitation centre.
A representative of the social clubs, Mr Ace Kelekwang emphasised the value of social clubs in relation to community involvement, applauding the society for the initiative.
Mr Kelekwang said social clubs played a vital role beyond recreation, as they were a vehicle for community development, social cohesion and humanitarian support.
He said through organised social clubs, members were able to pull resources, spare time and skills to uplift the less privileged and respond to social challenges within their communities.
“Social clubs bring people together for a common purpose. When we come together as clubs, we are able to support the needy, promote healthy lifestyles through sport, and foster a spirit of volunteerism and Botho,” he said.
Mr Kelekwang said the participation of social clubs in Tshimologo Rehabilitation Centre Football Festival demonstrated how sport could be used as a platform to promote inclusion and raise awareness about people living with disabilities.
He added that social clubs also provided mentorship and positive engagement for the youth, keeping them away from social ills and instilling values of teamwork, discipline and community service.
He thanked the society for partnering with social clubs, calling for more collaboration to amplify humanitarian work across the country.
Kelekwang commended Tshimologo Rehabilitation Centre for nurturing talent, urging the business community to continue supporting such centres. ENDS
