As a cost saving measure, the Regional Integration Study was cancelled with the aim of combining the project with the National Multimodal Transport Master Plan (NMTMP).

Answering in a question from MP Nehemiah Modubule on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Communications, the Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Johnnie Swartz said the Regional Integration Study had not been undertaken.

Mr Swartz said the expression of interest to carry out the NMTMP study was advertised and adjudicated in December 2013 and the ministry was awaiting a 'no objection' from the World Bank to proceed to the next stage of issuing request for proposal to the short listed consultants.

The ministry would only know of the outcome of the study after the submission of the final report, he said. MP for Lobatse had asked the minister to inform Parliament on progress made regarding the Regional Transport Sector Integration Study and whether the study has shown any potential for achieving regional transport integration.
