Through his upcoming book, Raphah, young Motswana author Kgosietsile Kooagile, seeks to encourage readers to deepen their relationship with God amid the pressures and distractions of modern life.
The 21-year-old from Mmadinare said the book was inspired by his conviction that spiritual growth required intentionality and a conscious effort to spend time in God’s presence.
Kooagile who is a fourth-year Logistics and Supply Chain Management student at the University of Botswana said often, people became occupied with outward appearances and neglect personal relationship with God.
“Intimacy with God must be cultivated deliberately. It cannot be replaced by religious activity, public appearances or the ability to quote Scriptures,” he said.
He explained that Raphah was inspired by Psalm 46:10, which calls on believers to be still and acknowledge God.
Kooagile said the Hebrew word Raphah, as used in the context of his book, encouraged people to be still.
“Stillness is often mistaken for weakness, laziness or the absence of ambition. However, it does not mean abandoning responsibilities, but rather refusing to allow the noise and demands of everyday life to dictate one’s priorities,” he said.
He said the book was not limited to a particular age group or Christian background.
“Anyone who desires spiritual growth, renewed perspective and a more intentional relationship with God can find something meaningful in its message,” he said.
He also has other books to his name including, Shattering Shackles, Ataraxy, Here’s My Heart and Morafhe, a poetry anthology featuring various authors.
He said his broader vision was to use storytelling as a vehicle for thought, transformation and creative contribution.
For him, literature should go beyond artistic expression to help readers understand themselves, question assumptions and examine the world around them.
“I want to write works that engage the intellect without neglecting the heart. I want to explore faith without making the human experience seem simplistic and discuss difficult realities without sacrificing compassion,” he said.
Kooagile draws inspiration from Christian leaders Dr Myles Munroe and Bishop David Oyedepo, whose teachings on purpose, leadership, biblical conviction and disciplined study have influenced his approach to writing.
He also admires Maya Angelou for her ability to explore dignity, vulnerability, injustice and resilience through poetry and prose.
Kooagile said Botswana remained his starting market, with ambitions to reach readers across Africa and eventually the international market.
The book launch is November 28. ENDS
