Tebogo marathon commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness

22 Oct 2026

October 24 will mark the inaugural Letsile Tebogo Charitable Foundation marathon and a series of events will be featured to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The foundation spokesperson, Tshepang Mabaila, told BOPA that the marathon would be preceded by a Cancer Awareness Symposium that would held at The Grand Palm Hotel.

He said proceeds would go toward Tebogo’s desire to establish a clinic in Francistown.

Tebogo wants to collaborate with other stakeholders to establish a clinic that would care for people living with breast cancer and support broader cancer awareness initiatives.

“The cause strikes a deeply personal chord for the Olympic champion, and as you might be aware Tebogo has been vocal on cancer issues because he experienced the devastating impact of the disease firsthand. The foundation itself was birthed following the tragic passing of his mother, Seratiwa Tebogo, who succumbed to cancer,” he said

Mabaila said they were anticipating guest athletes such as Collen Kebinatshipi, Bhekimpilo Eppie, Bayapo Ndori, Leungo Scotch, and Oratile Nowe, and other athletes from South Africa and Kenya coming to support Tebogo.

Mabaila said the intention was to roll out the initiative to other parts of the country, in order to provide ordinary Batswana with a unique opportunity to interact with Tebogo.

While cancer advocacy remained a core pillar, Mabaila said the foundation’s support reached out to the visually impaired individuals, by providing various aids and assistive equipment.

Furthermore, the foundation extended its support to grassroots sports development, particularly assisting Kanye Football Club as it continues to uplift various sectors of the community. ENDS
