Investigations into the unlawful shooting of Mr Letlhogonolo Phuthego at Pitsane farms on June 23 by Gerrit Duplessis are still ongoing.

The accused, Gerrit Duplessis, 29 appeared before Lobatse Magistrates Court, senior magistrate Ms Vinga Kedikilwe-Johnson on Tuesday to answer for a single count of causing grievous bodily harm through the unlawful shooting of Mr Phuthego on the right leg on the day of the incident, contrary to section 230 (1) of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor, Ms Momphi Thamane told the court that investigations on the matter were still ongoing, adding that the complainant was still undergoing medical treatment on his right leg as he returned back to hospital on October 12 for a second surgery. Meanwhile, she said the prosecution was still awaiting a medical report on his status.

In addition, Ms Thamane said they were still awaiting a ballistics report on the fire arm which was used by the accused at the time of the incident. The case was then scheduled for March 5, 2027 for status update. ENDS
