Botswanasustainabilityweek targets newopportunities
15 Oct 2026
Botswana Sustainability Week 2026 (BSW26) is expected to drive investment in sustainable development and unlock new economic opportunities.
The fourth edition of the annual event, scheduled for Maun from October 21 to 23, will bring together leaders, investors and policymakers under the theme: The Business of Sustainability: Activating Private Sector Leadership to Drive Botswana’s Next Growth Economy.
The summit aims to shift the national sustainability conversation from awareness and policy discussions to practical, bankable environmental, social and governance (ESG) investments. Hosted by the Green Loop Foundation, the event has received government endorsement through Parliament, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
It will focus on sustainable financing and project funding across 18 sectors.
Green Loop Foundation founder, Ms Lindiwe Modise, said the platform would explore sustainability opportunities, co-investment models and community-based natural resources management frameworks to ensure local communities benefit from sustainable development initiatives.
“Our aim is to deliberately shift the conversation away from basic ESG awareness into active investment decisions. BSW26 is built to be a practical catalyst for mobilising private capital directly into sustainable, impactful, community-led projects that will safeguard economic transformation,” she said.
Key corporate and sector stakeholders, including Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) and Chobe Holdings Limited, have joined the initiative as investment and catalytic partners, with the aim of aligning national policy priorities with private sector financing. BTO Environment and Eco-Certification Manager, Mr Mokganedi Ntana, said the partnership reflected a shared commitment to strengthening sustainable tourism and promoting community development. “Our partnership with BSW26 reflects a joint commitment to build a resilient, eco-conscious tourism sector.
True sustainability relies on turning progressive ideas into measurable local value, creating jobs, protecting vital natural infrastructure and empowering communities across Ngamiland and beyond,” he said. The three-day programme will focus on long-term ecological rehabilitation and socioeconomic resilience, with technical capacity-building workshops covering infrastructure, food security and cross-border investment opportunities.
Among the key highlights will be the official launch of the Maun Education Park, an initiative intended to link ESG investment with environmental education at community level.
The event will also provide updates on the One Million Tree Campaign, which seeks to restore indigenous and fruit trees while establishing community nurseries across Botswana. Through these initiatives, BSW26 seeks to strengthen collaboration between government, the private sector and communities in mobilising investment for environmental conservation, job creation and sustainable economic growth.
