Botswana Congress Party (BCP) council candidate for Sefhophe Ward  by-election, Mr Mokwaledi Bagwasi, has been described as an experienced politician who has interest of people at heart.

BCP president, Mr Dumelang Saleshando said Mr Bagwasi thoroughly understands council procedures and the challenges facing residents, having previously served as a councillor in the area.

Speaking at the launch of Mr Bagwasi’s candidacy in Sefhophe over the weekend, Mr Saleshando urged residents to consider his experience and knowledge of local issues when choosing their representative in the upcoming by-election.

He thus called on residents to support a candidate who was already familiar with community’s needs.

For his part,  Mr Bagwasi said serving the public required patience, love, and commitment, adding that he was prepared to dedicate himself to the responsibilities of representing the people of Sefhophe. If elected, Mr Bagwasi promised to prioritise addressing the challenges faced by residents.

Among his top priorities are the renovation of the Boseja Clinic and the construction of a proper drainage system to prevent floodwaters from disrupting daily activities during the rainy season. Meanwhile, Ms Evelyn Kgodungwe, a former Thakadiawa Ward council candidate in Selebi-Phikwe, also urged residents to support Mr Bagwasi, describing him as an individual with considerable experience in politics and public service. Ms Kgodungwe appealed particularly to women, who constitute a significant proportion of the electorate, to participate in the by-election and make informed choices based on candidate capability.

She encouraged residents to look beyond party affiliations and assess whether a candidate had the capacity to lead during difficult times.

The Sefhophe Ward by-election follows the passing of former Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) councillor Mr Christopher Motsholapheko in July.

The by-election is scheduled for Saturday. ENDS
