Royal Bafokeng donates gym equipment

Maun is widely recognised for producing high-calibre athletes who go on to represent Botswana on the international stage.

Against this backdrop, the Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN) has donated specialised gym and athletics equipment to the Dose Organisation for Sports Excellence (DOSE) to strengthen local talent development.

DOSE is a Maun-based sports development initiative that supports local athletics clubs and nurtures elite and emerging talent.

The organisation is spearheaded by national coach Kebonyemodisa ‘Dose’ Mosimanyane, who has trained and mentored some of the country’s top athletes, including Olympic 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo.

Mosimanyane said the equipment would strengthen efforts to identify and groom emerging talent in Maun. Mosimanyane said the new equipment would address some of the challenges athletes faced, including limited access to suitable training facilities.

Previously, athletes had to travel long distances between the stadium and a gym at Maun Mall, which lacked specialised equipment required for athletics.

“The gym was not equipped for athletics; it lacked treadmills and other specialised equipment we require, and we were improvising. Not all athletes could access it, and only the elite athletes managed, but with this new equipment, every single athlete under our care will have the opportunity to train properly,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to a press release from Royal Bafokeng Nation, the donation reflected its commitment to youth development and the enduring relationship between the Royal Bafokeng Nation and Botswana. “We hope this becomes the foundation for long-term collaboration through athlete exchanges, coaching development, and future athletics competitions between our nations,” said Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi.

The first consignment of the donation was officially handed over at the Maun Sports Complex recently. The equipment includes treadmills, rowing machines, indoor bikes, power racks, Olympic bars, bumper plates, hurdles, a high-jump landing area and throwing implements. ENDS
