President Advocate Duma Boko has commended the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester for their visit to Botswana, hailing it as a powerful symbol of the nation’s status within the Commonwealth family.
President Boko made the remarks on October 6, during a courtesy call by Their Royal Highnesses, who are undertaking a four-day official visit representing King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
“We are grateful that you have been able to come and join us and further cement the good relations between ourselves and the United Kingdom as part of the Commonwealth family,” President Boko said.
The visit coincides with commemorating 60 years of Botswana’s independence as well as six decades of diplomatic relations between the country and the United Kingdom.
While in the country, the royal couple will participate in a programme showcasing Botswana’s achievements, rich culture and pioneering leadership across various fields, ranging from technological innovation to wildlife conservation.
British High Commissioner to Botswana, Mr Giles Enticknap, stated that the visit reflected the close and enduring relationship shared by the two nations.
Mr Enticknap emphasised that the visit underscored mutual commitment to expanding opportunities for young people, promoting sustainable development and deepening the institutional ties that had defined the partnership over the past six decades.
Meanwhile, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, is a working member of the British royal family and a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II. ENDS
