Mosemele turns life struggles into lessons

05 Oct 2026

What began as a career in beauty therapy has inspired Lorato Mosemele to venture into authorship, resulting in her publishing a book titled: School of Life: Lessons No Classroom Can Teach. A pastor, wellness coach and nail technician, Mosemele launched her maiden book recently in Molepolole.

According to Mosemele, her experiences, coupled with stories shared by her clients and church members, inspired her to write the book. “This book teaches what no normal mainstream school can teach a person. It is about the journey of life, where one is faced with an array of challenges,” she said.

Living as an orphan since her childhood, Mosemele said the journey of life without a parent and learning to fend for herself started when she was doing form one.

After completing Form Five, she turned to nail technology, a career she pursued for 10 years. “It was tough, but I had no choice because there was no one to care for me since my mother was no more. At times I nearly lost hope, but I carried on and survived,” she said.

Mosemele said her interactions with clients taught her that people of different ages and backgrounds faced various challenges.

“Most of my clients would tell me about their hurdles, and I was more like a counsellor. As people shared their stories, I learnt that life is a combination of achievements and struggles, and one needs to learn and move forward,” she said. She said the same experiences were shared at church, where people often sought her advice, reinforced her belief that people needed a ‘school of life’ to help them navigate everyday challenges. Mosemele said the book used tests and exercises to encourage readers to learn from life’s challenges and overcome them. She said it could also guide people struggling with suicidal thoughts, drug addiction and alcoholism. “Life has its own tests that one has to learn and graduate from,” she explained. Mosemele said her own journey demonstrated that challenges are part of life.

She encouraged readers to acknowledge their struggles, learn from them and move forward.

“The School of Life... is to encourage the reader never to allow challenges to push them to the grave, but to stand strong and be triumphant against all odds,” she said.

She acknowledged veteran writers in the likes of Lebogang Mogotsi, Onyana Reetsang and Wiseman Seboy for their support and encouragement during her writing journey. ENDS
