Chapo addresses Mozambicans in diaspora

01 Oct 2026

Mozambique President Daniel Chapo has urged Mozambicans in the diaspora to contribute to the economic development of both their host nation and native country.

Addressing his countrymen as part of his engagements during a three-day state visit in Gaborone on Wednesday, Mr Chapo persuaded them to participate in the development of a Mozambique, which focused heavily on industrialisation, job creation and a sustainable economy.

“Our homeland cannot achieve its full potential without your intellect, investment and your heart because no matter how far you travel from Mozambique, it still remains your home,” he said.

Also, he applauded Mozambicans living in Botswana for their continued humility in culture, supporting one another, maintaining strong community bonds and remaining peaceful and law-abiding citizens of Botswana.

“It is with profound honour and pride to highlight that the office of Mozambique High Commissioner in Botswana has never recorded a single case of lawlessness from our countrymen. Through your integrity and respect for the laws and culture of Botswana, you have built a bridge of friendship that no treaty can match. You are true Mozambican ambassadors,” he said.

He also used the opportunity to brief them about his visit to the Samora Machel Museum in Lobatse and aid tribute to the nation of Botswana for its shared regional liberation history.

He highlighted that it was humbling for Botswana to honour the legacy of Mozambique’s founding President.

President Chapo, who arrived in Botswana on Monday, for a state visit went back home on Wednesday, following a number of engagements with President Advocate Duma Boko, including attending the country’s 60th independence anniversary as the guest of honour.  ENDS
