Francistown celebrates independence anniversary

Francistown residents, today flocked to their respective wards to celebrate Botswana's 60th Independence Anniversary.
The celebrations, held across various wards in the city, were marked by song, dance and messages of unity, peace and tranquility that have reigned in the nation since independence in 1966.
Speakers at different wards emphasised the need to preserve Botswana's democratic values, peace and stability, which made the country a shining example on the continent.
Donga ward Development Committee (WDC) chairperson said this year's celebrations were more vibrant, noting that improved funding enabled them to host meaningful celebrations for residents.
He said the funds allowed them to provide refreshments, entertainment and activities for all age groups, bringing the community together in the spirit of Botho and unity.
Residents said the ward-based celebrations gave everyone an opportunity to take part in the festivities, while reflecting on Botswana's journey of development over the past six decades. ENDS
