The Botswana Go-karting team is set to travel to Benguela, Angola to compete in an international Karting Africa Show Run competition scheduled for October 10 and 11.

Team representatives, Oliver Welman, 12, will participate in the junior driver category while Hamzam Ahmad aged 15 will participate in the senior driver category.

Botswana team public relations officer, Joseph Kengere revealed that each country was required to bring only two participants, noting that the two selected drivers were the only available team members available as the others were sitting for their school examinations.

Kengere welcomed Botswana’s participation in the competition, saying for the country to be participating in a competition where a minimum of 50 countries from Africa were expected to compete, would provide local riders with the much-needed exposure.

He said the participation would also afford the players the opportunity to catch the eye of international scouts.

Kengere said they expected the team to perform well since they had experience when it came to regional competitions, which would give them an upper hand over some of their competitors.

“Oliver has raced in Zimbabwe and South Africa which gives us an edge to compete for high positions,” he said. ENDS
