Capital markets engines of growth
24 Sep 2026
Capital markets have the potential to serve as primary engines of economic growth by channelling idle savings from households and institutions into productive investments by businesses and government. Bank of Botswana Governor, Mr Lesego Moseki, said this at the Finance and Investment Pitso on Tuesday. Mr Moseki also said capital markets were integral components of modern economies, playing a pivotal role in facilitating the flow of capital, investment and wealth creation. He said capital markets served as the backbone of financial systems by connecting investors and businesses and enabling the efficient allocation of resources. Mr Moseki said the investment pitso provided a platform for captains of industry to recommit to strengthening local capital markets and ensuring that they served as engines of growth and an anchor for the country’s economy.
