Say no to deviant behaviour

11 Feb 2013

Rainbow High School students have been urged to stay away from any form of deviant behaviour.

Speaking at the Rainbow prize giving ceremony, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Dr Gloria Somolekae advised students to desist from alcohol, drugs and anything that could destroy their future.

“It is disturbing to note that drugs have become the in thing for all weak and confused young people who lack ambition,” she said.

Dr Somolekae noted that such people took drugs as an easy way out because they wanted to avoid the pain associated with discipline, adding that by so doing, they wee giving up on their future.

“What you will become in your future life, be it a teacher, pilot, doctor, lawyer, engineer, accountant, you name it, is entirely dependent on the foundation you lay at this stage in your life. It is all up to you with the help of your teachers and support of your parents, nothing should stop you,” Dr Somolekae said.

Meanwhile, she commended the school for its outstanding performance in the 2012 IGCE results, which were also the best results Rainbow had ever produced.

However, the assistant minister also implored students never to take for granted the various advantages that they had over other children as recipients of private education.

"Such advantages, among others, are an environment that is far better resourced. Unlike many children in other families, students do not come to school hungry and already have parents who have prioritised education as their primary investment," she noted. ENDS
