Following the liquidation process, concerns of pending payments and other necessities of for BCL employees continues to dominate debates, public gathering and other platforms in Selebi Phikwe.

Recently, Minister of State President, Defence and Security Mr Moeti Mohwasa and Water and Human Settlement Minister Onneetse Ramogapi engaged with former BCL employees.

The meeting was to provide an update on housing allocation, soft landing payments and other important matters related to BCL mine closure. Mr Mohwasa articulated that the government was fully aware of the myriad challenges that have emerged from the ongoing liquidation process.

He pointed out that the Liquidator was operating with a defined set of powers that inherently contributed to certain delays in payments. Mr Mohwasa cited among others the distribution of the soft-landing funds, which were intended to provide immediate support to former employees as they navigate the difficult transition.

Mr Mohwasa, however, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving issues at hand in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions. He said the desired outcome was to ensure the rights and interests of the former employees were duly protected during the transitional phase. “Until the liquidation process reaches its conclusion, some issues for former employees may inevitably take a significant amount of time to resolve,” Mr Mohwasa stated.

He underscored the importance of completing the liquidation process, highlighting it as a critical step in effectively addressing the pressing concerns of former employees, especially regarding overdue payments. Mr Mohwasa said government intended to take all necessary measures to address all concerns and guarantee that the rights and interests of former employees remained a priority throughout the liquidation process. He also stressed the need for a collaborative spirit and understanding among all stakeholders involved, as the government navigates the challenges posed by the liquidation.

Furthermore, Mr Mohwasa urged the former employees to remain informed about developments but advised caution against placing trust in unverified sources of information regarding the ongoing issues related to BCL.

He explained that reliance on speculative reports could lead to unnecessary confusion and heightened anxiety among those who were eagerly waiting for clear and definitive updates regarding their payments and other unresolved matters. Mr Mathole Morake, a former employee of BCL, expressed his concerns regarding the ongoing challenges related to the liquidation process.

He highlighted that the issues surrounding the liquidation process were not only protracted but also deeply affect former employees who were still waiting for resolutions. 

Mr Morake explained the need and urgency of addressing the matter at hand, as the prolonged uncertainty continues to have significant implications on the affected parties. ends
