No mining areas of interest in Shoshong

03 Mar 2014

Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila says there has not been any major mining prospects discovered in the Shoshong constituency save for the CBM gas project near Kodibeleng areas.

Mr Mokaila told Parliament on February 26 that some prospecting activities had decreased and some fallen off due to low or no economic viability. “There are no mining areas of interest in the Shoshong constituency except for a few construction aggregate quarries,” said minister Mokaila.

The MP for Shoshong, Mr Phillip Makgalemele had asked the minister progress of minerals prospecting in the Shoshong constituency since his response to question 439 on February 2012 given that at the time most had not progressed beyond grass roots level.

MP Makgalemele had wanted to know whether the number of prospecting licences issued by the ministry had since increased or some expired, and if so, the minister was to state new mining areas of interest and those that have expired.

He also wanted to know whether any of the mining and prospecting companies attracted by Botswana Missions abroad have identified any mining prospects in the Shoshong constituency. ENDS
