A total of 1 907 residential plots have been allocated in Selebi Phikwe East since 2022. Answering a question in Parliament on Friday, the Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Mr Motsamai Motsamai said out of this number, 982 comprised of SHHA plotswhile 925 were plots allocated by the Department of Lands. Furthermore, he said 406 residential plots were scheduled for allocation in the current financial year; with 155 for SHAA and 251 by Department of Lands, while 43 plots will be reserved for appeals. Mr Motsamai further said the layout design and land surveying for Mekoro were finalised in 2009 with the contract awarded for land servicing within the area. He said the contract was terminated due to non-performance; with a new contractor appointed following legal proceedings and the project completed in 2020. However, he said the land servicing process led to layout contamination, necessitating the reconfiguration and resurveying of certain plots; further contributing to the delays in plots allocation. He was responding to a question from the MP for Selebi-Phikwe East, Mr Kgoberego Nkawana, who had asked the minister to appraise Parliament on the status of residential plots allocation in Selebi Phikwe East.
