Smash Maniacs host table tennis tournament

Smash Maniacs table tennis club, which is an affiliate of Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA), have decided to establish an annual tournament called Smash Maniacs Table Tennis Tournament.

The tournament, dubbed Clash of the Titans will be launched on Saturday morning (March 1) at the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) multi-purpose hall at Fairgrounds, Gaborone. Immediately after the launch the one day tournament will commence with competition played out in team and singles categories.

Smash Maniacs public relations officer, Tefo Motsumi explained in an interview that local company Kam Bricks Holdings would sponsor this year’s edition with P5 000.

Motsumi added that the company had also committed to sponsoring their club with P12 000 per annum, taking the total sponsorship deal between the two entities to P17 000.

The spokesperson further said that BTTA competitions organiser, Kudzanani Motswagole also helped out by donating 50 medals that would be given to players. He added that more individuals had contributed towards the tournament.

Motsumi said it would be an open tournament and anyone was free to register to participate. “We have invited all clubs affiliated with Botswana Table Tennis Association, as well as schools and individual players. And we have so far received confirmation of participation from a number of clubs and schools,” said Motsumi.

He said Dithubaruba and Chobe were among clubs that had confirmed participation, while Moshupa, Mmanaana and Radikolo were some of the schools that would be present. He stated that each team was required to register a maximum of five players, whilst any person could register to play in the singles category.

The singles category will be divided into seniors, Under-18 and juniors sections. Motsumi said Smash Maniacs intended to make the tournament an annual event. ENDS
