Botswana National Front (BNF) vice president, Mr Moeti Mohwasa has implored the party members to be disciplined and unite for collective responsibility.

Delivering closing remarks at the end of the party’s 61^st National Conference on July 20, Mr Mohwasa said as part of the Umbrella for Democratic Change-led government, they were mandated with driving developments for the general populace not serving personal interests.

He underscored the need to maintain the principles and values of their movement that made them popular with the voters.

He noted that the BNF was founded on protecting the dignity of people and making a positive impact on their lives.

As such, he said attaining state power should not derail them from such principles, but instead they should work together to deliver on their promises to restore public confidence.

Mr Mohwasa also underscored the need to build robust party structures at all levels to strengthen their governance and democratic processes.

He said such structures would be instrumental in driving developments and effectively delivering services to Batswana.

He also urged delegates to exercise humility and stay in touch with people in the communities.  “I want to remind you that the BNF exists to stand for the rights of the people not to speak for ourselves. Sacrificing for the organisation should not be at the expense of the country, hence we should maintain the values that founded this party,” he said.

He noted that the conference theme, The Torch We Carried, The Nation We Must Build, was premised on the promises they made when they were advocating for a change in government, hence their governance would be measured by the positive impact and the opportunities they created for young people, empowerment initiatives for the workers and farmers.

He further said they had a responsibility to implement the ideals of liberation of the masses and align their policies with like-minded fraternal organisations in the African region, with the aim of building a better continent for all.

He appreciated the solidarity messages delivered by the fraternal and civil society organisations at the conference, saying that was testament that a revolutionary movement did not exist in isolation. ENDS
