Govt treats constituencies equally
27 Feb 2014
Government does not have any development policy that discriminates constituencies held by opposition Members of Parliament, in favour of those held by members of the ruling party.
Responding to a parliamentary question from the Member of Parliament for Lobatse, Mr Nehemiah Moduble on February 26, the Minister of Fianance and Development Planning, Mr Kenneth Matambo said the development agenda was guided by the National development Plan.
Mr Matambo said preparation of the National Development Plan followed a bottom-up consultative approach, starting at grassroots level, while district and urban development plans which were developed at district level with the participation of political leadership, fed into the National Development Plan.
Currently, he said, development initiatives were not carried out on constituency basis and therefore the question of discrimination should not arise.
Furthermore, the minister noted that if there was any discrimination, the developments that had taken place in Lobatse constituency would not had been undertaken such as the world class psychiatric hospital, the Lobatse Clay Works factory, a brand new sports stadium and the planned leather park.
