Ministry does not provide equipment to sport codes

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture does not provide equipment to sport codes participating in the constituency sport tournaments.
This was said by Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Shaw Kgathi when responding to a question in Parliament from Gaborone West South MP, Mr Botsalo Ntuane,
However, Mr Kgathi said he was aware that in 2009, football was the only sport code that was provided with equipment in all constituencies including Gaborone West South. The equipment which included sport attire, he said, was a once-off donation from the English Football Association.
In that connection, Mr Kgathi said he was not intending to consider providing equipment to any sport code participating in the constituency tournament, because they were all expected to provide for themselves through various activities, including using prize money from the tournament.
“I have no plans to limit the number of teams per sport code that each constituency can have because these are not registered teams and as such we have not set the limit as to how many teams can be established at any given time,” he added.
Mr Ntuane had asked Youth, Sport and Culture minister to state whether he was aware that football was the only sport code that was provided with equipment in Gaborone West South constituency tournaments as far back as 2009.
Gaborone West South MP also wanted to know when Mr Kgathi would consider providing equipment to all other sport codes participating in constituency tournaments and if he would consider coming up with a formula to limit the number of teams per sport code that each constituency could have so as to avoid the mushrooming of many teams and also for purposes of managing the league.
