Horse racing enthusiasts are set for another thrilling spectacle when the annual Kokotsha July Derby returns to Resting Place Grounds on July 20, bringing together top local riders, community celebrations and live entertainment.

Dubbed, The Big One, the derby is organised through a partnership between the Kokotsha Village Development Committee VDC and the Kokotsha Community Horse Racing Association, and has become one of the region’s premier horse-racing events.

Kokotsha VDC chairperson Patricia Piet said the event was more than just a sporting competition, as it also promoted community development and social cohesion.

“The Kokotsha July Derby is a significant community event aimed at promoting local talent, fostering unity and encouraging healthy competition,” she said.

Piet said the derby also provided a platform to showcase community initiatives while strengthening the spirit of togetherness among residents and visitors.

In addition to the high-stakes races, patrons will be treated to a variety of entertainment, with popular entertainer Steve Mi’Gruva’ Mane expected to headline the performances.

With anticipation building and riders preparing to compete for top honours on the sand track, this year’s Kokotsha July Derby is expected to deliver an exciting blend of sporting action and family entertainment. ENDS
