The construction of a 350-kilometre veterinary cordon fence is said to be on track following the launch on June 27.

The cordon fence, constructed from Ramotswa to Werda, is a containment structure meant to stop the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease.

Recently, Director of the National Disaster Management Office and also chairperson of the National Emergency Command Centre, Mr Gordon Molefe and other team members, visited the site, where he appreciated the work done thus far.

He said there was considerable progress made since the construction of the fence was launched last month.

He reiterated that the cordon fence, which was long overdue, would help with controlling movement of cattle especially during out breaks of diseases such as FMD.

He further applauded the team and volunteers, currently engaged to construct the fence.

In turn, he said they would make regular visits so as to boost the morale of teams.

Meanwhile, the Botswana Prisons Service promised to avail offenders, currently serving extra mural labour to beef up manpower.

Also, the Botswana Defence Force promised to increase officers on the ground.

Updating the National Emergency Command Centre team, District Agricultural coordinator Mr Phetogo Molefi-Tshuma said the locals were cooperative and lending a helping hand. ENDS
