Rollers BDF XI promise Top 8 thriller
26 Feb 2014
The Mascom Top 8 final promises to be a thriller as both finalists, Township Rollers and BDF XI, have vowed to fight until the last whistle to bag the P1 million cash prize.
The two Gaborone giants will clash in the finals of the soccer spectacular at the National Stadium on Saturday (March 1) at 8pm.
For Rollers coach Madinda Ndlovu, the Saturday clash would provide a long sought after opportunity to finally bag a trophy that eluded him for many years.
Speaking during a press conference at Lekidi football center in Gaborone on February 24, Ndlovu said Rollers had come a long way to reach the finals of the Top 8.
“We have prepared well for this game and we will deal with any obstacle that stands between us and glory. We will come with a full squad and we will definitely deliver the best final performance ever,” he said.
Rollers assistant captain Maano Ditshupo, who was red carded in last weekend’s premier league game against UF Santos, said he was relieved that he will finally get a chance to play in the final as his red card had been overturned.
Not to be outdone, BDF XI mentor, Elijah Chikwanda said his team was well prepared for the final and promised to give Rollers a tough game.
His captain, Mokgathi Mokgathi, also promised to give Mapalastina a run for their money. Meanwhile, Botswana Premier League chief executive officer, Bennett Mamelodi said they had put systems in place to make sure that everything would go according to plan.
The Top 8 final will be made even more exciting by the fact that Rollers and BDF XI were not only fighting for the Top 8 trophy, but also for league honors.
Rollers are currently at the top of the log with 45 points, trailed by BDF XI with 44 points. Matebele will be looking to draw blood after losing to Rollers 2-0 in their last encounter. ENDS
