YCare Charitable Trust on Tuesday donated P365, 000 to 10 community organisations across Botswana to support initiatives in education, health, mental health, gender-based violence prevention and community development.
The beneficiaries include a joint community project with the FNBB Foundation at Khwee Primary School, which receives P90,000, Gaing ’O Community Trust of Matshumu (P50,000), Botswana Gender-Based Violence Prevention (P40,000), BOSASNet (P40,000), Botswana Network for Mental Health (P40,000), Nxakato Junior Secondary School in Sowa (P30,000), Botswana Diabetes Association (P30,000), Ark and Mark Trust of Motlhabaneng (P20,000), Botho Corps in Maun (P15,000) and the 31 on 31 Run initiative (P10,000).
Presenting the donations, acting chairperson of YCare Charitable Trust, Mr Nelson Letshwene, said the Trust had remained committed to transforming lives despite challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted its fundraising activities.
“For over two decades, YCare has demonstrated that when communities walk together for a common purpose, they can transform lives. Today’s donation of P365,000 is another milestone in a journey that has seen more than P6 million invested in the wellbeing of communities across Botswana,” he says.
Established in 2003 by Dr Nomsa Mbere, the Trust has supported communities through fundraising walks and donates at least 75 per cent of its net fundraising proceeds to charitable causes, while the remainder sustains future fundraising activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Head of FNBB Foundation, Ms Atang Mbikiwa, said the foundation valued partnerships that improved the lives of communities across Botswana.
She said the foundation had invested more than P90 million in community development initiatives over the years, working with government, community-based organisations, non-governmental organisations and other development partners to promote education, health, youth empowerment, arts and culture, environmental conservation and financial inclusion.
