03 Jul 2026

Excitement is reaching fever pitch in Lobatse as the Southern Block playoffs of the 2026 DTCB Women’s Football Championship kick off at the Lobatse Council Stadium and Maletamotse Grounds this weekend.

Backed by the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB), the high-stake tournament promises intense, fast-paced action as top regional teams battle for a coveted place in the national semifinals.

Organised by the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and the Southern Region Football Association (SOFA), the playoffs present a crucial stepping stone in crowning Botswana’s best women’s teams.

SOFA Women’s Representative, Bonang Solomon, highlighted the quality of the competing sides: Makufa SC (Kweneng Region), Mazottie FC (Gaborone Region), Maletamotse FC (Southern Region), and Matebele FC (Kgatleng Region).

“These teams are strong contenders and will be fighting hard in a competitive format,” she said.

The Southern Block winner will advance to the DTCB Women’s Championship semifinals, joining qualifiers from the Western, Eastern, and Northern Blocks.

On Saturday, Matebele FC will face Maletamotse FC at the Lobatse Council Stadium at 9am followed by Mazottie FC and Makufa SC at Maletamotse Grounds at 3pm.

The Sunday games will start at 10am with Makufa SC taking on Maletamotse FC at Maletamotse Grounds, while Mazottie FC battles Matebele FC at Lobatse Council Stadium.

Meanwhile, DTCB has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to the growth of women’s football in Botswana, injecting P1.7 million into the 2026 championship, a P200,000 increase from the previous year.

The sponsorship package includes substantial prize money with champions earning P50,000, runners-up P35,000, third place P25,000, and fourth place P10,000.

Additionally, DTCB is providing essential football equipment to teams at the regional level, helping to strengthen the foundation of the women’s game and supporting its pathway into the professional women’s league. ENDS
