Mohwasa Acting President

Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Mr Moeti Mohwasa has assumed the role of Acting President.
According to a press release from the Office of the President, President Advocate Duma Boko departed Gaborone yesterday to attend the 9th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), scheduled to take place in Cape Town, South Africa from Wednesday to Sunday.
Vice President and Minister of Finance Ndaba Gaolathe will accompany President Boko to the SACU Summit.
“The Summit will bring together Heads of State and Government from the five SACU member states, namely Botswana, eSwatini, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa, where leaders will deliberate on measures to deepen economic integration,” the release says.
The release notes that Botswana’s participation in the SACU Summit underscored the country’s commitment to advancing regional economic integration, promoting industrial development and strengthening regional value chains as drivers of sustainable economic growth, job creation and shared prosperity.
It further says the summit will review progress made by member states in areas such as investment promotion, customs modernisation, regional value chains and industrialisation.
President Boko, who is also accompanied by Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Mr Tiroeaone Ntsima and other senior government officials, are expected back home on Sunday. ENDS
