At the break of dawn on Saturday morning, scores of hikers will lace up their boots and set out on an adventure-filled hiking trail featuring unique landmarks during the third Installment of Lobatse Heritage Hike organised by Keep Walking Hiking Club.
Keep Walking Hiking Club spokesperson, Andrie Mokopakgosi said the 10km hiking trail would lead hikers to scenic panoramic view points of the mountainous landscape and profound historic sites in town such as the Fish Keitseng monument, Samora Machel monument, Peleng gorge, Peleng dam as well as the Mandela's hideout spot amongst others.
Additionally, Mokopakgosi, highlighted the awe inspiring slow winding trail which would start at the foot of Peleng hill offering profound, immersive connection with nature and historic insights into Botswana’s pioneering urban space during the country’s nascent years.
He highlighted that there would be a tour guide from the museum to share information with hikers on the heritage trail, which was characterised by the rugged peaks, green lush vegetation, historic buildings and colonial architect, which formed part of the broader spectrum of the Lobatse economic resuscitation strategy, as well as a major boost to Lobatse’s tourism portfolio.
“We will briefly stop at Peleng dam to enjoy the ambience of the dam and have a braai and snacks and then proceed to Samora Machel Museum and then return back to Peleng Kgotla,” he said.
He disclosed that after the activity, hikers would then embark on fruit tree planting activity under the Tree365 corporate social responsibility as part of giving back to the community.
He added that the objective of the hike was to cast light on Lobatse’s historic heritage sites, and also give back to the community.
Additionally, he said they were expecting numerous local hiking clubs to grace the occasion as well as international hikers from Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Czech Republic who have registered for the hike. ENDS
