BOPA covered Shoshong meeting

26 Feb 2014

The Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) covered the kgotla meeting that was addressed by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development in Shoshong on October 17, 2013.

The Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said this when responding to a question in Parliament from the Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Mr Phillip Makgalemele on Tuesday, February 25.

“My office has since established that Botswana Press Agency did not report on the meeting and this is an omission that should not have happened. Measures have since been taken to minimise the chances of such omissions recurring in future,” he said.

The assistant minister said, “Botswana Television did not cover the kgotla meeting as they were neither aware of the meeting nor had they been invited.”

MP Makgalemele had asked whether Botswana Television and Botswana Press Agency covered a kgotla meeting addressed by Minister of Local Government and Rural Development in Shoshong on October 17, 2013.

He also wanted to know why these public media houses did not air or report on the said kgotla meeting and what was the cost of covering this kgotla meeting. ENDS
