Delayed projects irks deputy chairperson

Delayed projects and shortage of staff remain primary challenges hindering productivity and service delivery in the Okavango District.
Okavango District Council (ODC) deputy chairperson, Mr Brian Samoka said ongoing projects were meant to reduce overcrowding especially in schools and to improve staff welfare.
Addressing a full council meeting recently, Mr Samoka said the projects in question were behind schedule, bearing negative effects on government efforts to deliver.
Mr Samoka said projects such as the P80 million ongoing infrastructural works at a primary school at Rwee ward in Shakawe, were at 17 per cent, while associated staff houses were 82 per cent complete
Furthermore, Mr Samoka said shortage of staff also remained a challenge in schools across the Okavango District, saying most schools were operating without substantive school heads and deputy school heads.
He said the challenge of shortage of staff was however, not peculiar to the education sector since other government department like health, agriculture, immigration, police services and local government were faced with the same predicament.
Mr Samoka implored relevant authorities to swiftly address human resource shortage to ensure seamless service delivery and continuity in government programmes.
In response to speech, nominated councillor, Mr Lekonne Masoko was equally concerned by the delayed projects.
Mr Masoko said Rwee primary school project had been at 17 per cent progress for a long time, saying council should consider termination of contract since the contractor was persistently failing to deliver despite several interventions provided to aid progress.
Ngarange-Mogotho councillor, Mr Mbathera Ngundura was equally irked by shortage of resources, adding that the situation impacted negatively on among others performance of teachers, ultimately resulting in poor academic results. ends
