Botswana Out For Vengeance
28 May 2026
Botswana’s senior men’s cricket team, aka Baggy Blues, face their toughest test on May 29 when they clash with rivals, Kenya in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier A.
The two sides met in December 2023 and Kenya won by 40 runs.
On May 29, when they clash, it remains to be seen whether Botswana will avenge the 2023 loss or Kenya will continue its dominance.
For Botswana to guarantee qualification in the tournament, they need to win all six of their matches and finish first in the group. So far, Botswana has won four games.
Botswana kicked off the tournament with flawless win over Sierra Leone by 70 runs after posting an impressive 166/5 and restricting the visitors to 96/7.
They also scored a 10-wicket victory over Mali.
The hosts also defeated Cameroon on Monday and Côte d'Ivoire with 231 runs on Thursday.
The tournament features seven competing nations; Botswana, Cameroon, Mali, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Côte d'Ivoire and Rwanda.
The top two teams from the qualifier will advance to the ICC 2027 Africa Regional Final, where they will clash with higher-ranked regional sides for a coveted ticket to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028. ENDS
