Lobatse Tannery Nears Completion

Revitalisation of the state-of-the-art Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) Lobatse Tannery Project worth P218 million is progressing well.
According to Lobatse Mayor, Mr Mosimanegape Ganakgomo, the project stood at 94 per cent completion was on schedule for final completion in September.
Addressing full council recently, he said the project represented an important investment toward industrialisation, value addition, and economic diversification.
The mega infrastructure development by the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) targeted at revitalising and operationalisiing the Lobatse Tannery includes the refurbishment of the tannery to process hides and an effluent treatment plant as the BMC moves to upgrade and innovate industrial base.
Notably, the Tannery which halted operations in 2006 due to environmental non-conformance is undergoing massive regeneration by Colic Construction Development Company to the value of well over P212 million with Pinagare Engineers as consultants at an amount of P5 million.
The scope of works involves refurbishment of the tannery to process hides and Effluent Treatment Plant.
Colic Construction Development Company site agent Mr Emerias Belay said in an interview that the BMC Lobatse Tannery Project, which has the capacity to process 1 200 hides per day, was well on course and the team worked resolutely to meet the completion deadline.
He said Colic Construction Development Company employed 180 including the youth and that skills transfer to locals was presently ongoing. ENDS
