Sepopa set for one-stop GBV support centre

Government has approved a one stop center for survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) to be constructed at Sepopa, Okavango District.

Okavango District Council (ODC) deputy chairman, Mr Brian Samoka said when opening the ongoing full council meeting on Monday noting that land has already been secured for the project.

The facility, he said would complement efforts made by the district in the fight against GBV.

The deputy chairman also stated that there are programmes in place in the district aimed for empowerment of women entrepreneurs through climate smart agriculture and enterprise development implemented in partnership with development partners.

On other matters, Mr Samoka commended healthcare workers and stakeholders in the district for successful completion of the first round of the National Polio Vaccination acknowledging that the district has attained 100 per cent of its vaccination target in the campaign that ended on May 07.

"This achievement reflects the dedication of our healthcare workers, the cooperation of our communities and the strength of primary healthcare system," he said.He further urged parents and guardians to ensure that children adhered to the second round of the vaccination scheduled for June 08-11 this year.
