India postpones Africa Summit over Ebola scare

India and the African Union have postponed the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit, scheduled in New Delhi from May 28 to 31, due to the evolving Ebola-linked public health situation in parts of Africa.
A joint press release states that the decision was made in recognition of the importance of ensuring the full participation and engagement of African leaders and stakeholders and mindful of the emerging public health situation in Africa.
According to the release, India reaffirms its solidarity with the people and governments of Africa and expresses its readiness to contribute to Africa CDC-led efforts aimed at addressing the evolving health situation.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization declared an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a public health emergency of international concern, which has seen The current strain of Ebola is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which there are no approved drugs or vaccines. ENDS
