25 Feb 2014
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is unable to provide housing for customary courts personnel due to financial constraints.
Responding to a parliamentary question , the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said there was shortage of staff accommodation, inclusive of accommodation for customary courts staff.
She, however, said the staff of customary courts was provided with accommodation in both the existing tribal administration and central government housing pools, including those of the village development committees and private houses, where these were available.
Ms Tshireletso also said government through the Ministry of Lands and Housing was addressing accommodation of staff in conjunction with the private sector. “In this regard, consideration for provision of housing to customary courts staff will be made along other deserving needs, resources permitting,” she said.
The Member of Parliament for Lobatse MP, Mr Nehemiah Modubule had asked the minister what plans were in place to provide accommodation to customary courts staff. ends
