Mogae Role in Peace Preservation in Lesotho Crucial
16 May 2026
Former Lesotho Prime Minister, Pakalitha Mosisili says the late former President Festus Mogae played a crucial role in helping preserve peace and stability in Lesotho during the political unrest that followed the country’s 1998 elections.
Mr Mosisili said Mogae stood firmly with Lesotho during one of its most difficult periods, working through the Southern African Development Community to help restore calm and support democratic processes.
He expressed gratitude for Botswana’s contribution through the Botswana Defence Force, saying their intervention helped create conditions for free and fair elections.
He also praised him for championing anti-retroviral treatment programmes that restored hope to families across Botswana. ENDS
