MmaBessie Festival Revives Call To Boost Food Security

The Mmabessie Cultural Festival kicked off today at Serowe Main Kgotla, with food security taking center stage. Mr Scobbie Lekhutile, Chairperson of the BaGammangwato Cultural Committee and Heritage and a revered oral historian, said efforts were being reinforced to revive and sustain Masota to aid with food security. Masota were communal fields belonging to kgosi where grain was harvested and stored in granaries to feed the underprivileged and provide a safety net during droughts. Masota emerged as one of the topical issues that stole the show at the Cultural Festival, drawing strong interest from attendees. ENDS
