Kiptum And Berlin Win Top Spots At Diacore Marathon

Kenya’s Evans Kiptum walked away with P25,000 after winning the men’s 42.2km race at the Diacore Marathon 2026.
Speaking shortly after the race on April 26, Kiptum described the competition as challenging but rewarding.
“It was a tough race, but I stayed focused and managed my pace well. I am happy to win here in Gaborone,” he said.
Kiptum was followed by Godiraone Nthompe, who secured second place, earning P15,000, while Thatayaone Kelapile finished third and took home P10,000.
In the women’s race, Germany’s Annika Berlin, who is based in Kenya, delivered an equally strong performance to secure first place and P25,000. She was followed by Rosinah Kibono, who earned P15,000 and Kitsiso Joseph, who took home P10,000.
In the half marathon (21km) men’s category, Zimbabwe’s Tatenda Hove claimed victory in a time 1:04, earning P15,000.
“I am very happy with this victory. I have been running this marathon for years, and it means a lot to come back and win again,” he said.
Kabelo Chibanda finished second to take home P10,000, while Seselebo Matlapeng secured third place and P5,000.
In the 10km race, Wilson Othusitse led the men’s category, crossing the finish line in 30:12 to claim P10,000.
“I am very happy with how I ran today. The weather really helped, and the support along the route kept me going,” he said.
Kabelo Bogusile and Kagiso Lebathare finished second and third, earning P6,000 and P3,000 respectively.
In the women’s 10km race, Mosadi Kgosiemang secured victory and P10,000. She was followed by Kefilwe Galetsiwe, who earned P6,000, and Boitumelo Bakha, who took home P3,000.
With over 11,000 participants, this year’s marathon once again showcased strong competition and growing international participation, cementing its place as one of Botswana’s premier sporting events. ENDS
